As this paryushan festival starts, we remember Param Pujya Bapuji. He used to say that of all the festivals this Paryushan is the most important. It is a festival for aradhana - for striving and doing our inner work.
In this Paryushan to help mumukshu's develop their aims for these 8 days Param Pujya Bhaishree quotes Kalikal Sarvagna Hemchandrasuri Maharaj Saheb: 'કષાય અને ઇન્દ્રિયથી જીતાયેલો આત્મા જ સંસાર છે, અને કષાયો ઇન્દ્રિયો ઉપર વિજય મેળવનાર આ આત્મા જ મોક્ષ છે.' The soul entrapped and under the control of kashays (passions of anger, ego, deceit and greed) and the senses is in sansaar or worldy existence. The soul that is victorious and in control of kashays and senses is liberated.
We want to be free from this worldy existence and attain liberation, so this paryushan gives us a invaluable opportunity to gain control over our kashays and senses. For this bhakti, saiyam, taap, pratikraman and dhyan are tools to help us shed karma. Our first priority should be to remove Darshan Mohniya Karma and to attain Samyak Darshan or self realisation.
Param Pujya Bhaishree gives us his blessings that in these 8 days of striving may we weaken and reduce the control kashays and senses have over us, may we adhere to purity, may we embibe the greatest virtues of forgiveness and in doing so may we shed infinate karmas on this path to liberation.
